Developing a Peer Support Service (delivered by The Peer Partnership and Voscur)

Registration is closed for this event
This session will help your organisation to consider, design and develop a peer support service. FREE

What is this course about?

Learn how to develop a peer support service, or improve a current peer support service, to help people in need. We will look at set-up, coordination, promotion, goals, the qualities of a peer support worker, and much more. There will also be various group activities, a chance to share experiences, and we will look at some case studies.

The Peer Partnership  is an extension of the successful work achieved by Brigstowe in providing peer support for people newly diagnosed or struggling with long-term physical and mental health conditions.

Sean Hourigan from The Peer Partnership will deliver the session; he has been training peer mentors and managing peer mentoring programs for people with long-term physical and mental health conditions for the past six years.

What will you learn?

  • What peer support is.
  • All about mentors and mentees.
  • Information on formats, locations, goals and outcomes.
  • The qualities of a peer support worker.
  • What needs to be taken into account when developing peer support (such as coordination, recruitment, promotion and development).

Who is the course for?

VCSE organisations interested in setting up a peer support service. Ideally you would have some thoughts about the kind of programme you are considering (for example, what subject your support group or activity would cover, and who it would help).
