What is this course about?

Local authorities, national government, health services and parish councils are increasingly aware of and open to the influence of public opinion, community organising and the presentation of evidence by a sufficient number of people.

Individuals service users, residents and customers often struggle to be heard and make change, but working together as part of an orchestrated campaign with the right tools and targeting, far more is possible.

What will you learn?

This course will teach you to:

  • Understand the theory and practice of influencing.
  • Work out your aim and who you need to influence.
  • Consider the influence available to you and how to build on it.
  • Approach individuals, other groups and stakeholders to influence the agenda.
  • Make a plan to increase your influence and meet your mission.

Why is this relevant or important now?

In the last five years, it’s been hard to ignore the powerful grassroots campaigns that have attracted local, national and global headlines – #MeToo, Black Lives Matter, climate change protests, Repeal the 8th, and many more.

Social media, petition websites and other tools make it easier than ever before to get your message out, but it’s a crowded market, so you need to make your call stand out and target people effectively to be influential.

Who is the course for?

Leaders of groups and organisations who want to make a difference and benefit their community by changing policies, strategies and decision-making
