What is this course about?

It can be hard to get funding for your group, and even small bids present a challenge if you aren’t sure of the right approach. This workshop will take you through the basics from identifying the right opportunity to receiving a grant.

What will you learn?

  • Identifying the right grant funding source for your group
  • Checking eligibility
  • Preparing to apply
  • Writing a good bid
  • Using evidence to support your application
  • Managing your fundraising

Why is this relevant or important now?

Lots of organisations still make basic mistakes with grant applications – not demonstrating their eligibility, applying for activities a funder won’t fund, mistaking outputs for outcomes - which means funders might not even get to read about your great project before putting your bid in the bin.
This is especially true at the moment when the number of applications for every grant has increased and assessors need to work through bids quickly.

Once your bid is through the first stage, it still has to be clear, distinctive and explain what may be a difficult subject or specialist need to a non-specialist reader.  This course will give you the techniques to get these basics right and present your application effectively.
